I bought this knit dress last Autumn at a vintage fair for the grand sum of £15.00. Although I really like the dress itself, I found the cream colour quite difficult to wear - especially in Winter. Well....last week I found a box of black dye lying around in a drawer of odds and sods and thought 'hmmm, what I can use this for?' I rifled through the wardrobe until said dress appeared, and then I proceeded to get really excited about the prospect of having a new dress that I will actually wear!
I followed the instructions carefully but wasn't sure what kind of results to expect. I know there are lots of variables when it comes to dying clothes, but as long as the colour was even all over, I was going to be happy, if it turned grey rather than black.

Top job. Came out beautifully and looks gorgeous on.x
ReplyDeleteMuch better than black. There are way too many black dresses in the world.
ReplyDeleteIt turned out really lovely!
ReplyDeleteI really like this colour even if it was accidental. It is really flattering.
ReplyDeleteLovely color! Sometimes dying turns out to be one of those lucky accident things... I haven't dyed much myself, but when I do dye ~ it always turns out different, and most of the time, better than I planned! ❤

Looks amazing! Now I want to dye the knit dress which sits in my closet and never gets used due to its color...
ReplyDeleteThe color looks lovely!! I think I'll do the same if I find a dress of a difficult color!

beautiful shade - what is the fabric of the dress (is it a wool or viscose base?) please
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous colour, it really suits you!
ReplyDeleteOoo what a pleasing result!! Great colour on you, and how bizarre that the dye was black - I can't explain that one! x
ReplyDeleteThe colour suits you so well!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful colour! This seems to be the colour of your eyes isn't it?
ReplyDeletewhat a lovely surprise, such luck!
ReplyDeleteOMG I love it! The color is super cute, and the fit of the dress is just stunning on you. What a great buy!

That is such a great colour! It's grey and teal and redolent of the sea during a storm. I think we should officially dub this instantly classic hue Jeni in your honour.

It is a great colour, and I think a big improvement over the original shade. I'm always a too scared to dye things, but it would be so useful. Your result here is very inspiring!
ReplyDeleteOoh, the color is beautiful in its totally-not-blackness! Gorgeous on you and a definite improvement.
ReplyDeleteThe color is really fabulous, and quite a surprise! Although it reminds me of a happy version of Anne of Green Gables, when she tries to dye her hair black and ends up turning it green. Love the result.
ReplyDeleteCheers,
Jessica, Zella Maybe
It looks lovely on you!
ReplyDeleteAll I can think of is that there was some synthetic in the fabric that didn't take the dye well, or something in the water than interacted with the dye. But it's a smashing colour, and you would lose the impact of the stitch pattern with black.
Great result :)
