After I clocked off from my shift at the Jeeves Dating Service, I literally bounced backstage to the dressing room. Why? Well, no, I hadn't had too much gin (at this point), I was just so excited about putting on my new frock. Eeeeek!!
Here is why.....
It is a beautiful 1950s floor length gown, with what I like to call a 'Snow White' collar, blue and purple brocade bodice, and gorgeous layers of pink, purple and blue chiffon. It wasn't in the best condition when I bought it from the Vintage Emporium. In fact it looked like someone had been prancing about in a rose bush for a few hours wearing it, as the skirt was tatty and ripped. But, I spent my friday night lovingly repairing it and up to my elbows in a bath full of 60 year old sweat and grime, until it looked practically brand new.

I can see why it was so tatty though. I spent my whole evening unravelling it from girls stiletto heels, and grinning through my teeth, wanting to scream, 'Get off my dress bitch!' but it survived the night, just about.

Of course we found some time for some posing...
And the obligatory toilet/mirror shot
A fine night was had by all, and so we finally crawled into bed at 5am after an hours search for a taxi in Kings Cross, and a half an hour wait in the Kebab shop...in the freezing cold...in a ball gown. Hurrah!

Love the mirror shot :) And that dress.... well... I actually have no words apart from... SWOON!
ReplyDeleteWhat a stunning dress! I am in awe.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful. There's nothing more satisfying for the soul than rescuing and restoring a beautiful dress to its former glory...
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, beautiful dress. How wonderful that it found its way to someone who'd restore it, not cut it up.
ReplyDeleteStunning!! I am so glad that dress got to go out for a night of dancing and glamour, because that is what it was made for.
ReplyDeleteThat dress is perfect! Utterly gorgeous. Well done for reintroducing it to the dancefloor after restorations.
ReplyDeleteYou really look like a snow white! I would like to see more pictures of the dress.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a fabulous night and that dress IS absolutely STUNNING!
ReplyDeleteSo lovely to see you darling. You looked so lovely in that fabulous dress! xx
ReplyDeleteFabulous!
ReplyDeleteYou look stunning! What a beautiful dress!! :)
ReplyDeleteBreathtaking as ever, gal! Just stellar!
ReplyDeleteWow, what an utterly fabulous frock, and you look divine in it, so right.
ReplyDeleteGlad you found it and not some idiot who would ruin it by "upcycling" it, aargh, my most hated word at the moment! Even thinking about it makes me want to lie down and grit my teeth.
It really IS a princess dress, isn't it? So perfect. But don't get me started on floor length white chiffon...my wedding had much 'bride caught on rosebush in supposedly whimsical pose', 'bride's skirt trodden on' etc'...it is a mahasoove hassle! But soooo perfect looking!
ReplyDelete...I can do that move where the girl's feet are in the air...
ReplyDelete* : )
not very hard, really, it just looks showy...
Damn, I miss the lindy.
Oh you look simply stunning in that dress! Really breathtaking!
ReplyDeleteLooked like you had a fabulous time! And your dress was really beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI'm SO glad you spent some time giving that dress a new life, it looks AMAZING!!!! And the skirt has that lovely flowy material, that just makes you wanna dance to make it move around your legs...Away from other girls stilettos... :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful dress and such a tiny waist!!
